A look at Limbra, in 30 seconds

📱

On iPhone?

Limbra is primarily an Android app, but the web version runs in Safari with nothing to install: open limbra.org/app. Your data stays encrypted in your browser, on your device.

Science, Support & Autonomy

Addiction is not a lack of willpower. It's neural circuitry working exactly as designed; except it's working against you. Limbra takes a harm reduction approach: daily guidance and support, grounded in what science actually knows; a complement to, never a replacement for, professional care. Limbra is for people struggling with their use just as much as for people with no addictive disorder who simply want to better understand and manage their consumption.

🧠

Neuroscience, not judgment

Your brain isn't broken. The reward circuit is doing its job. We help you understand it so you can reshape it.

🫀

Zero shame

No streaks. No abstinence badges. No confetti when things are going well. A difficult moment is data to analyze, never a reason to feel guilty.

🔄

Multi-addiction

Substances, screens, gambling, food, compulsive buying… Limbra addresses the shared mechanisms, including transfers from one addiction to another.

🤝

Complement, not replacement

Limbra never replaces professional care. It's a tool for between sessions; a companion that understands neuroscience and never sleeps.

5 pillars

Each pillar maps to a validated neuroscience mechanism. Together, they cover the full craving cycle: before, during, and after.

Predict. Craving weather; anticipate the moments at risk instead of enduring them.

Predict · Craving weather

Risk reading based on what the person logs (use, cravings, times of day) to spot moments at risk. The best time to act is before the craving.

Interrupt. The 30-second SOS; a second-by-second protocol when the urge surges.

Interrupt · SOS

When the craving hits, a short protocol takes over. Sensory interruption, guided 4:6 breathing, 5-4-3-2-1 grounding, then a moment to catch your breath. The prefrontal cortex takes back control.

Observe. Watch the craving without judging it; the wave rises, the wave falls.

Observe · Timer + replay

A craving peak lasts a few minutes. The timer makes it visible, measurable, bearable. You watched it pass; you know you can do it again.

Learn. Neuroscience made plain, sourced, without jargon or magic promises.

Learn · Neuroscience modules

3-to-5-minute micro-lessons on the reward circuit, dopamine, the prefrontal cortex. Understanding your brain is already the start of change.

Zero Shame. A difficult moment is data, never a fault; no counter ever resets.

Zero Shame · A difficult moment = data

No counter for days without use. The "I used" button is the same size as the others. Every difficult moment enriches your craving profile.

The SOS, live demo

Limbra's first tool, already working. When the craving hits, a short multi-sensory protocol lets the prefrontal cortex take back control. The demo below is a shortened version; in the app, the phases run longer and the recovery step ends when you decide.

  1. InterruptSensory interruption
  2. BreatheGuided 4:6 breathing
  3. Ground5-4-3-2-1 grounding
  4. RegainA moment to catch your breath
4 guided phases • Phone vibration • Live craving timer

FAQ

Where does my data go?

The app never sends any consumption data anywhere: it all stays encrypted on your phone. The only processing on this site is the email address you give voluntarily, to receive important news or join the test program (Brevo, hosted in Europe).

Is it really free?

Yes. No subscription, no locked feature. Optional, purely cosmetic support tiers exist for anyone who wants to help the project.

Does it replace medical care?

No. Limbra is designed to work alongside professional care, not to replace it. When needed, the app and this site point you to the right contacts.

What about iPhone?

No iPhone app for now: Limbra is developed for Android first. But the web version runs in Safari, with nothing to install, and everything stays encrypted in your browser, on your device. If an iPhone version happens, you'll be notified by email if you left your address below.

Who's behind it?

A graphic designer, working alone, building this app in public with AI assistance; it's all told in the build journal (in French), decisions and mistakes included.
